 Suroloyo Peak (Puncak Suroloyo) Menoreh

O ye beloved traveler, this time I visited a place that I think had great potential and tremendous appeal, but unfortunately always that local governments doesn't give more serious attention to these attractions, especially with inadequate road access, the feeling you were left from home with a cheerful and eager to relieve fatigue but had to struggle to get to this place with a zig - zag track, it could be fun because you will meet a lot of holes the road before you reach this point, however, is quite pleasant place to visit, because you can see many places like Borobudur temple from the distance, Mount Merapi, Sundoro Mount, Sumbing Mount and Merbabu mount and another place that you can see.

Why do people call this place Suroloyo peak?, because this place is located at an altitude of 1091 meters above sea level, and this place has a long history and has strong links with the history of the palace of Yogyakarta, because in the history of this place is the hermitage Sultan Agung (2nd Sultan based from history of the Yogyakarta Palace / Mataram Islam Palace) for obtain guidance / "nggolek wangsit" (Java language), this place will be very crowded with visitors during the Islamic new year coming / "malem satu suro" (Java language), because the place was used as a royal family heirloom for laundering and weapons royal heritage ceremony, over time, the place is still used by people to meditate and seek enlightenment and calm down from the world that quietly make soul and body getting tired, and there are also people who use this place to meditate in order to get a whisper from the devil or his ancestors to help them financially (poverty in real life), easy to get mate, they believe that the spirits of ancestors to give them something, so this place has an aura of its own, quite mystical and spiritual appeal, although now people are imprisoned there began to decrease, but the ritual of to celebrate 1st night at suro month still lasted until now.

The Suroloyo peak is located in the Gerbosari village, Samigaluh, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, accessible by motorcycle (must be careful) or car (actually), but because the roads / way are broken and many holes towards the last 20 kilometers, I recommend you to use a motorcycle transportation (because more easy than you use car related with the track to there), 2 hours drive from the center of Yogyakarta, you will see a fairly challenging climbs with varying slope of 45 degrees to 60 degrees, but do not grieve because you will discover a sensation with this track (for me, and i hope for you too), as I often did the first time I went to visit, I asked local residents, which way to the top Suroloyo?, a potent weapon for me, but if you bring a map of Yogyakarta will be better again, and this place is pretty good when the rains come, because, heaven will be very clean to look at from a distance all the mountains and Borobudur temple without the use of binoculars, and also in the dry season on the island of Java, the view will be obstructed by the fog and moisture which will take place throughout the day (suggestion for you if you want not to disappointed when you visit this place), from my own experience, I've been to this place in the morning to see the sunrise. I leave from home at 3 am / 3 am, and I reached right on the place at 5 am, as I set some stairs that totaling stairs are 286 steps, the atmosphere was colored by the morning fog coming suddenly (the fog straightly comes just in some second), I am very disappointed at the time, as before, in my journey to get there, the sky was clear and I could see the stars and the moon at that time, I became a step but I stopped and thought, but I'm realize that there is no other option but to contain my disappointment, and wait miraculous that fog will be disappear (as i knew that fog would be gone when the temperature going warm caused from the sunlight), but it seems like my luck was not in favor of that morning (so I'm realize that on the rain season must be better and it's like that), the fog at that time did not move / gone until at 8 am, but still, a mist hovering still looked and although I waited until 2 pm, some photos I can capture even though the results less satisfactory, nevertheless, the first time I set my foot there, I have a distinct impression with this place, the place is quite spoil my eyes with a view that stretches far into the horizon as broad as the eye could see many places you can see the top of this Suroloyo peak. I often say to myself, if the Suroloyo peak is well managed (must be), plus the road infrastructure are good, improved lodging for the traveler, then this place can be famous and have more attraction for the visitors (I'm sure), bit of a story that should bring encouragement for local governments always dominate tourist places in Indonesia (listed on the state statute), and almost always end up with the story and the same condition that condition just "stuck in the moment with no progress", that infrastructure is always left out and gets less attention and going broken after (this is what really happen in the most tourism places on Indonesia), even though many people realize, economically, all people can enjoy all the advantages presented if all facilities are well managed.

  1. If you would enjoy to see the sunset or sunrise here, it would be a good idea to check the weather conditions before you depart from the start point, because where there is often a very annoying fog visibility (that Ur view will be unobstructed), although the morning, especially before 6 pm and after the fog would be slowly gone after 8-10 am.
  2. It would be a good idea to use a motorcycle to get there, because the car will be difficult for you caused the road to reach there.
  3. Bring binoculars if you have it or u can rent it just on there, there is some place and small shops that rent out some binocular, so you can see different places comfortably.
  4. Rarely has the services of a travel agency package tours to this place, due to poor road conditions, so it is better you hire a biker (if u're tourist and doesn't know how to reach there) or using the services of a tour guide so you do not get lost (because you need catch the time when the sunrise shows up).
  5. Make sure you fill up with enough petrol / gasoline, because, refueling place or gasoline station are located quite far from this place.
  6. This place does not have adequate toilets, so you should bring Ur own toilet paper from home (better, because they just had traditional toilet, sorry).
  7. Bring a synthetic jacket from home, because of the weather which often change rapidly and because the place is located at an altitude, bring some warm clothes, especially if you will enjoy views of the sunrise here.
  8. Best Time for Visit, are at rain season, as a pretty freely, and a little moisture, make mist into fewer, than in the dry season.
